Chapter 15 - THE NIGHT THE FOUNDATION WAS ATTACKEDThe attack came at 2:13 a.m.

The alarm system activated.
Security rushed through the building.
Someone had broken into the archive.
But nothing was stolen.
Instead, every computer had been wiped.
Every database.
Every employee file.
Every beneficiary record.
Someone wanted us blind.
Eli discovered the problem first.
“The backup server.”
“What about it?”
“It's gone.”
I froze.
The original archive still existed physically.
But the digital system contained years of work.
Names.
Beneficiaries.
Evidence.
Thousands of people depended on it.
We called federal investigators.
By sunrise, they were inside.
They recovered partial data.
But something bothered me.
Why destroy the archive if Charles wanted the money?
Then I understood.
He didn't want the money anymore.
He wanted control over the truth.
Without records, thousands of victims couldn't prove ownership.
He could rewrite history.
We launched an emergency recovery operation.
Eli worked on the digital system.
Samuel secured every physical document.
Evelyn contacted the beneficiaries.
Lily coordinated with our technology team.
And Julian—
Julian was nowhere to be found.
His phone was off.
His car was abandoned.
I felt ice move through me.
He had been taken.
A message arrived.
Come alone if you want your husband back.
My hands shook.
Evelyn grabbed my arm.
“You are not going.”
“I have to.”
“No.”
“I can't lose him.”
Eli stepped forward.
“Then don't go alone.”
“I was told to.”
“Exactly.”
He showed me a hidden location tracker.
“We can follow the message.”
We traced it to an abandoned warehouse.
Police surrounded the building.
We entered.
Julian was tied to a chair.
Charles stood behind him.
Older.
Thin.
But still smiling.
“Hello, daughter.”
I stared.
“You're family.”
“No.”
“You are.”
“I stopped being family when your grandfather decided I was less important than his precious heirs.”
“You kidnapped children.”
“I protected the assets.”
“You destroyed people.”
“They survived.”
“Barely.”
Charles smiled.
“You have no idea what power costs.”
I looked at Julian.
“Let him go.”
“No.”
“You want me.”
“Yes.”
“Then take me.”
Julian shouted:
“No!”
Charles laughed.
“You've always been the problem.”
“What do you want?”
“The trust.”
“You can't control it.”
“I can control you.”
He reached for a gun.
Then the lights came on.
Federal agents surrounded the warehouse.
Charles turned.
He had been recorded.
Every word.
Every confession.
Every threat.
He dropped the weapon.
Police arrested him.
Julian was freed.
I ran toward him.
He held me.
“I thought I was going to lose you.”
I cried.
“So did I.”
Charles was taken away.
And for the first time, the final enemy was gone.
But the hardest part remained.
May you like
We had to decide what to do with everything.
And the answer would change hundreds of thousands of lives.
