Chapter 10 - THE FAMILY UNDER THE MORNING SUN

Five years later, the Black Crown Foundation had helped more than a hundred thousand families.

My father retired.

Evelyn became the foundation's director.

Samuel remained a firefighter.

Lily became a doctor.

And I became the chairwoman of the trust.

Julian stayed beside me.

Not because our families needed a merger.

Because we loved each other.

One morning, we returned to the house where I had spent my childhood.

My old bedroom had been transformed.

There were no bandages.

No locked cabinets.

No guards.

Only windows.

Sunlight.

Flowers.

A mirror.

Evelyn stood beside me.

“Do you ever think about taking your bandages back?”

I laughed.

“Never.”

Samuel entered.

Lily followed.

My father walked behind them.

For the first time, all four siblings stood together.

My father looked at us.

“I am sorry.”

I smiled.

“We know.”

“Do you forgive me?”

Evelyn answered first.

“Yes.”

Samuel nodded.

“So do I.”

Lily smiled.

I took my father's hand.

“Yes.”

He cried.

So did I.

Outside, Julian waited.

He held out his hand.

“Ready?”

I looked at my family.

Then at my reflection.

A woman stared back.

Not a monster.

Not a secret.

Not a prisoner.

Just me.

I walked toward Julian.

We stepped outside beneath the morning sun.

The same man who had once been afraid to see my face now kissed my forehead.

“You're beautiful.”

I smiled.

“I know.”

He laughed.

It was a small sentence.

But for me, it meant everything.

I had spent twenty-six years believing beauty was something dangerous.

Now I understood.

Beauty had never been my greatest inheritance.

The greatest inheritance was freedom.

The freedom to choose my husband.

To know my siblings.

To forgive my father.

To show my face.

To live without fear.

And as the morning light spread across the gardens, I touched my cheek one final time.

No bandages.

No secrets.

No lies.

Just sunlight.

May you like

And a family that had finally come home.

THE END
