Chapter 5 - The Boardroom Coup at Moretti Capital

At 8:00 AM on Friday morning, the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Moretti Financial Tower on Wall Street was an arena of impending corporate execution.
Giancarlo Moretti—the seventy-two-year-old patriarch of the Moretti syndicate and Dominic’s older brother—sat at the head of the forty-foot polished mahogany table, dressed in a bespoke charcoal three-piece suit.
Around the table sat ten senior institutional directors, commercial lenders from JPMorgan Chase, and five senior union bosses from the Brooklyn docks.
"Gentlemen," Giancarlo announced smoothly, lighting an expensive cigar. "Due to some unfortunate logistical disruptions overnight, our family office is moving to execute the emergency fifty-million-dollar liquidity transfer to Panama Sovereign Maritime—"
BANG.
The heavy double frosted-glass doors of the boardroom were thrown open with concussive force.
Lorenzo Castellano walked through the threshold.
He wore an immaculate navy Savile Row suit, towering at six-foot-three, radiating the cold, unyielding sovereignty of an apex boss arriving to claim his empire.
Flanking him were Chief Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Jenkins, Captain Marcus Brody of the State Police, and eight armed federal marshals carrying heavy titanium evidence cases.
And walking on Lorenzo’s left arm, holding Ghost’s leather lead, dressed in an elegant ivory tailored wool suit, was Nina Vasquez.
Ghost strode into the boardroom with his head held high, his massive chest broad, his amber collar gleaming beneath the chandeliers. He stopped at the edge of the granite table, fixing Giancarlo with a dark, steady stare.
The entire boardroom plunged into dead, terrified silence.
Giancarlo sprang from his leather executive chair, dropping his cigar onto the mahogany, his face draining of every drop of color.
"Lorenzo?!" Giancarlo gasped, his voice cracking in sheer, unadulterated panic. "What... what is this circus?! You cannot bring armed marshals and an attack dog into a closed board meeting!"
"Actually, Giancarlo," Assistant US Attorney Sarah Jenkins stepped forward, placing a laminated federal indictment bearing the gold seal of the Department of Justice onto the center of the table, "it is an asset forfeiture and criminal arrest proceeding."
Lead Digital Auditor David Reed plugged an encrypted flash drive into the boardroom’s presentation hub.
The massive wall monitors flickered to life, displaying the decrypted ledgers recovered from the Astoria docks, the unredacted wire intercepts detailing twenty years of arson and extortion, and the forensic banking flows siphoning eighty million dollars into offshore shell companies.
"The Moretti syndicate is officially liquidated," Lorenzo declared, his voice cutting through the room like a diamond-edged scalpel. "All commercial shipping terminals, dry docks, and municipal contracts held by the Moretti family are seized under federal RICO statutes and transferred unconditionally into The Vasquez Memorial Community Trust."
Two armed federal marshals stepped behind Giancarlo Moretti’s chair.
Click. Click.
The sharp metallic ratchets locking around Giancarlo’s wrists echoed across the silent room like an executioner’s gavel.
Nina stepped up to the table, Ghost walking calmly at her knee. She looked down at the disgraced mob boss, feeling the weight of six years of grief and poverty lift from her shoulders forever.
"My father built his business with honest hands, Mr. Moretti," Nina whispered softly. "You burned it down for greed. Now you will spend the rest of your life in a cage."

As the marshals dragged the weeping patriarch down the executive corridor in full view of two hundred employees, Ghost leaned his head against Nina’s hip, letting out a soft, contented huff of air.
The debt was paid. The empire was redeemed.
