Chapter 19 - The Challenge Coin
Later that evening, after the estate had grown quiet beneath a blanket of sparkling autumn stars, Nina sat at the antique mahogany desk in the private study, organizing her architectural notes.
Resting beside her laptop was the silver challenge coin Lorenzo had handed her months ago during their first quiet moments—the token of protection, loyalty, and sovereign family.
She picked it up, running her thumb over the raised crest of the Castellano wolf emblem.
The heavy oak door of the study clicked open, and Lorenzo walked in carrying a small velvet box. He sat down on the edge of the desk, watching her with a gentle, enigmatic smile.
"What is that?" Nina asked, gesturing toward the velvet box.
"Open it," Lorenzo instructed quietly.
Nina set the silver challenge coin down, took the velvet box, and lifted the hinged lid.
Inside rested a second silver coin, identical in weight and craftsmanship to the first, but engraved with a brand-new crest combining the soaring falcon of the Vasquez technical institute and the steadfast profile of a Rottweiler's head.
Encircling the outer rim were the words: THE SOVEREIGN OATH — NINA & LORENZO.
"I had our mint in Zurich forge this specifically for you," Lorenzo explained, his voice dropping into a low, intimate register. "The first coin was your ticket into my world of protection. This coin is our equal partnership—the sealing of two sovereign lives under one house, one family, and one unbreakable horizon."
Nina’s eyes misted over with happy tears. She reached out, taking the new coin from the velvet box and placing it beside the first one on the desk.

"I know," Lorenzo smiled, leaning forward to press his lips softly against hers in a slow, deep, breathtaking kiss. "But every sovereign empire needs its official seal."
