Chapter 26 - THE BOOKSHELF

The little bookshelf made from the wedding chair moved with Alessia through three offices.
Eventually Clara colored one side with purple marker.
Alessia refused to repair it.
Veronica saw years later.
“Is that—”
“Yes.”
“You kept it?”
“It holds tax reports.”
Veronica touched the purple line.
“Who did this?”
“My daughter.”
“Good.”
Then:
“Still hate me?”
Alessia thought.
“No.”
“Forgive?”
“Mostly.”
“Still seventy percent?”
May you like
“Eighty-two.”
Progress quantified.
