Chapter 23 - VERONICA’S SECOND BUSINESS

Veronica eventually stopped trying to regain San Vittore.

At forty-six, she launched a national luxury-events company with Christian as minority investor.

No Costanzo name.

Within five years, revenue exceeded what she had earned at San Vittore.

She called Alessia once.

“You know what’s annoying?”

“What?”

“You were right.”

“About?”

“I didn’t need the estate.”

Alessia said:

“I know.”

Unbearable.

Then Veronica hired independent auditors annually.

Not because trauma transformed her into saint.
