Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

Victoria arrived at Maya's apartment that evening.

She kept looking at her father's photograph.

General Alexander Hawthorne.

A man she had spent her entire life believing was dead and forgotten.

Now she knew he had spent years searching for her.

The next morning, Vance brought her back to the archive.

"There is something you need to understand."

"What?"

"Your father's investigation never ended."

Vance opened another file.

"Someone buried it."

Maya studied the documents.

Millions of dollars had disappeared from military contracts.

Shell corporations had been created.

Payments had been made to officials.

Then witnesses began disappearing.

"How many people were involved?"

"More than we originally thought."

Vance pointed to a series of transactions.

"These companies eventually became investment firms."

Maya's eyes widened.

One company was connected to the Vaughn family.

Another was connected to Daniel's business associates.

Then she saw a third name.

Victoria Sterling.

Not directly.

But through a private foundation.

Maya's stomach tightened.

"Was my marriage connected to this?"

"We don't know yet."

"But you think it might be."

May you like

Vance didn't answer.

His silence was enough.
