Chapter 10 - THE DAUGHTER WHO CAME HOME

Months later, Maya stood before a memorial honoring her father.

A former military accountant came forward.

He had kept copies of financial records for twenty-four years.

Those records showed exactly what had happened.

Alexander had discovered that military contracts were being diverted through private companies.

Charles Vaughn was one of the businessmen involved.

When Alexander threatened to expose them, they arranged the attack.

But the plan failed.

Alexander survived long enough to send one final message.

Protect my daughter.

Someone did.

That person had taken Maya and disappeared.

But the accountant revealed another shocking detail.

Victoria had known about the network.

She had not participated directly.

She had remained silent.

Maya confronted her.

"Why?"

Victoria began crying.

"Because I was afraid."

"You could have told the truth."

"I know."

"You let me believe I was worthless."

Victoria lowered her head.

"I thought if I stayed silent, my family would survive."

Maya looked at her.

"And did it?"

Victoria couldn't answer.

Because the answer was obvious.

May you like

Silence hadn't saved anyone.

It had only delayed the destruction.
