Chapter 5 - Exposed on the Big Screen

The 30-foot projection screen shifted to the next slide with a soft, digital click.
The security photo of the Blackstone Hotel elevator faded, replaced instantly by a high-resolution scan of a bank authorization form. At the top, the letterhead of Manhattan Private Wealth Bank was clearly visible. At the bottom rested Evelyn’s forged signature, highlighted in a bright red digital overlay.
Below the document, a split-screen display appeared, showing a side-by-side comparison of Evelyn’s real signature on their tax returns next to the forged signature on the transfer form. A certified forensic handwriting analyst's official seal was stamped across the bottom of the image in bold red ink: **CONFIRMED FORGERY**.
The crowd was completely breathless. No one moved. No one spoke. The absolute absurdity of watching a multi-million-dollar financial crime unravel live at a high-society wedding kept everyone paralyzed in their seats.
"Slide three," Evelyn announced calmly into her lapel microphone.
The screen refreshed again. Now, a massive financial spreadsheet filled the display, detailing a complex web of forty-seven distinct wire transfers over an eight-month period. Each transfer showed funds being siphoned directly from the Sterling Family Trust into an offshore shell entity titled 'Caldwell & Associates Holdings', located in Grand Cayman.
The total amount highlighted at the bottom in bold crimson figures was: **$4,215,000.00**.
"Over four million dollars," Evelyn spoke into the microphone, her voice echoing with chilling clarity through the garden speakers. "Stolen from my family's joint accounts. Planned, executed, and divided between my husband of twenty-eight years... and his son's fiancée."
"It's a lie! It's all fabricated!" Marissa screamed, her immaculate bridal hair beginning to fall out of its pins as she frantically waved her hands at the crowd. "It's photoshopped! Owen, you have to believe me! They're trying to set us up! They hate me because I come from a modest background!"
Owen didn't even look at her. He stood like a stone sentinel, his arms folded, watching her unravel.
"Is this fabricated, Marissa?" Evelyn asked coldly, pressing the remote button again.
The screen shifted to a series of enlarged, time-stamped text messages retrieved directly from Marissa’s cloud backups via legal subpoena:
*Thomas (11:42 PM): The Cayman account is ready. Have you secured the flight details?*
*Marissa (11:45 PM): Yes. Charter leaves at 6 AM Sunday. Once we sign the register during the reception, nobody will question why we left early for the 'honeymoon'.*
*Thomas (11:48 PM): Perfect. Evie hasn't suspected a thing. She thinks I'm working late on the firm's restructuring. Soon we'll be living like royalty in Argentina.*
*Marissa (11:50 PM): I love you, Tommy. Can't wait until we don't have to pretend anymore.*
The text thread was so explicit, so damning, that several women in the audience covered their mouths in horror.
Thomas stood frozen in the middle of the aisle, surrounded by his wealthy peers, his corporate board members, and his closest friends. The arrogant, powerful executive had vanished entirely. In his place stood a exposed fraud, caught red-handed in the glare of his own grand stage.
"You monster," whispered Judge Vance from the second row, staring at Thomas with disgust. "You pathetic, thieving monster."
"Thomas..." Marissa gasped, running over to him and grabbing his tuxedo jacket in a frantic, wild grip. "Thomas, do something! Call your lawyers! Fix this! Tell them it's a joke!"
Thomas shoved her hands off him with sudden, violent disgust. "Get away from me, you idiot!" he hissed, his composure entirely shattered. "You left your cloud backups unencrypted?!"
"Me?!" Marissa shrieked, her voice reaching a piercing register. "You were the one who signed the forged documents! You promised me we were clean!"
The crowd gasped loudly as the two thieves began tearing each other apart right in front of the altar.
"Look at them," Valerie said loudly into her own microphone, her voice cutting through the rising panic. "The happy couple. But wait... there is still one more piece of the puzzle that our guests deserve to see before we conclude today's entertainment."
Evelyn's hand trembled slightly, but she held the remote firm. "Press the button, Evie," Valerie whispered.

Evelyn pressed it.
