Chapter 3 - The Master of the House

My father looked down at the glittering ring resting against his shoe. He didn't bend down to pick it up. Instead, he slowly raised his right foot and stepped directly on top of it, grinding the expensive heirloom against the hard marble with a sickening crunch of fracturing metal and shattering synthetic stones.

Chloe let out an ear-piercing scream of absolute horror.

"My ring! You destroyed my grandmother's ring!" Chloe shrieked, charging forward before being intercepted instantly by two of our executive bodyguards, who pinned her arms behind her back with effortless precision.

"Grandmother's ring?" my father chuckled darkly, a sound devoid of any humor. "That piece of CZ-embedded plated junk was appraised at three hundred dollars on a good day. My daughter wouldn't use it to clean the mud off her boots."

Eleanor rushed forward, her face purple with rage, completely oblivious to the sheer danger standing before her. "Are you out of your mind?! Do you know who we are?! My husband is a senior partner at—"

"Your husband is currently unemployed," my father interrupted smoothly, pulling a sleek gold-plated fountain pen from his breast pocket. He signaled to the head hotel manager, who had just scurried out from the back office, looking like he was about to burst into tears.

"Mr. Sterling," the manager panted, bowing slightly. "I am so sorry. We tried to—"

"Save your apologies, Thomas," my father commanded coldly. "Revoke the event permit for this reception immediately. Cut the power to the sound system, lock the primary exits, and escort every single guest out of my building within the next fifteen minutes. Anyone who refuses is trespassing."

"Your building?" Chloe gasped through her tears, struggling against the guards. "This hotel belongs to the Grandview Hospitality Group! You're just... you're just some old man!"

I gently untied the cashmere shawl from my shoulders, letting my father and mother see the full extent of the ruined dress and the physical bruising on my arm where Chloe had grabbed me.

"Chloe," I said, stepping forward with a calm, terrifying smile. "Let me introduce you to my father. Arthur Sterling. Sole owner of Sterling Global Holdings... and parent company of Grandview Hospitality."

The color drained entirely from Chloe’s face. Her mouth dropped open, but no sound came out. She stared at my father, then at me, as the horrifying mathematical equation of her family's total, utter destruction finally registered in her brain.

Dominic collapsed onto the floor, his legs giving out completely. He crawled on his hands and knees toward my father, sobbing hysterically.

"Vivienne! Vivienne, please!" Dominic wailed, grabbing the hem of my father’s trousers. "Tell him! We're married! We're husband and wife! Tell him it was just a misunderstanding!"

I looked down at the man I had called my husband just an hour ago. The man who had stood by silently while his family tore my clothes and humiliated me in front of hundreds of people.

"We were married, Dominic," I corrected him quietly. "Past tense. Because under state law, fraudulent inducement, financial concealment, and physical assault during the commission of a crime are grounds for immediate civil annulment and criminal prosecution."

My father gestured to the head of our legal team, who stepped forward carrying a thick leather briefcase.

"Mr. Albright," the lawyer announced formally, opening a document binder. "You are hereby served with an immediate restraining order, a petition for emergency annulment, a freezing of all joint marital assets, and a multi-million-dollar civil lawsuit for defamation, slander, and battery filed on behalf of Mrs. Vivienne Sterling-Albright."

Dominic froze. The name hit him like a physical blow. Sterling-Albright. He had spent two years married to a billionaire heiress, treating her like a charity case, while she quietly observed every flaw in his character, waiting for the precise moment to pull the plug.
