Chapter 24 - GRACE AND CAROLINE

Grace never called Caroline Mom.

Nobody asked.

She called her Caroline.

At sixteen:

“Would you be offended if I wore Mom’s locket to prom?”

Caroline answered:

“Why would I?”

Grace looked at me.

I pretended not to notice.

Later Caroline whispered:

“That question had history.”

“Yes.”

She touched my arm.

“I’m sorry.”
