Chapter 8 - TWO DAUGHTERS

The trial lasted almost a year.

Richard was convicted on multiple counts.

Financial fraud.

Identity manipulation.

Forgery.

Conspiracy.

The hidden accounts were seized.

The Vance empire remained intact.

But Eleanor changed everything.

She rewrote the trust.

Both daughters would inherit equally.

No spouse could alter the succession.

No trustee could conceal family records.

Every heir would have access to their history.

No child would ever be erased again.

Maya officially became Eleanor's daughter.

She moved into a small apartment nearby.

Not the mansion.

Not yet.

She wanted a life that belonged to her.

She continued working with the foundation.

Chloe stayed in New York.

She began therapy.

She slowly changed.

Not because anyone forced her.

Because she finally understood where her cruelty had come from.

One evening, the three women sat together in Eleanor's kitchen.

Maya cooked.

Chloe set the table.

Eleanor watched them.

For twenty-five years, the mansion had been filled with silence.

Now it sounded like laughter.

Chloe looked at Maya.

“Do you hate me?”

Maya thought.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because you weren't the person who stole me.”

“But I treated you badly.”

“Yes.”

“I was cruel.”

“Yes.”

“I don't know how to fix that.”

Maya smiled slightly.

“You don't have to fix yesterday.”

“You just have to do better tomorrow.”

Chloe nodded.

Eleanor watched them.

Her daughters.

Two women who had been strangers.

Now sisters.

The family story was changing.

May you like

Not by hiding the past.

By facing it.
