Troopers entered while he was asleep.
Robert watched the arrest footage once.
Then turned it off.
He had imagined confronting Vance.
Demanding answers.
Maybe even wanting him afraid.
None of that mattered anymore.
The evidence mattered.
Vance was brought back to San Piedro County.
During his first interview, he asked to speak to Robert privately.
Catherine Ross refused.
Robert was still suspended and a victim’s parent.
Vance wrote a letter instead.
You think this was personal. It wasn’t.
Robert read one line.
Then laughed.
Of course it was personal.
Not because Vance hated him.
Because Vance had decided Robert’s daughter was an acceptable tool.
That was personal enough.
The letter continued.
You were going to lose the election eventually.
Robert stopped.
Election.
That explained another layer.
Vance intended to become sheriff.
The land deal would finance people supporting his campaign.
The public video of Robert threatening an HOA president would destroy Robert politically.
One operation solved three problems:
Remove the audit.
Damage Robert.
Fund Vance.
Emma was collateral.
Robert tore the letter in half.
Then reconsidered.
He taped it back together.
