Chapter 6 - Uncle Thomas’s Last Board MeetingThe board meeting began at nine.

Thomas entered smiling.

He had no idea Emily was watching through a secure video feed.

No idea Rebecca had spent all night compiling evidence.

No idea federal financial investigators had already been contacted.

Thomas opened his presentation.

“Bennett Medical has reached a strategic crossroads.”

I almost laughed.

He proposed a $4.8 billion sale.

The buyer:

Northbridge Capital.

Rebecca’s investigation showed Bennett Strategic Holdings held a concealed stake in Northbridge.

Thomas would profit hundreds of millions.

Daniel interrupted.

“We’re not voting.”

Thomas frowned.

“Excuse me?”

I placed the Morgan Trust documents on the table.

His expression changed.

Only slightly.

But enough.

“What is this?”

“You know.”

Thomas leaned back.

Then looked at Victoria.

“You told them.”

Mom walked into the room.

“No.”

She looked directly at him.

“Emily did.”

That name changed everything.

Thomas’s face went pale.

“She’s alive?”

My stomach turned.

Why would that surprise him?

Daniel noticed too.

“What do you mean, alive?”

Thomas recovered.

“I assumed her condition—”

Rebecca interrupted.

“Nobody told you how serious her condition was.”

Silence.

Then Thomas made his mistake.

“She was never supposed to survive this long.”

The entire boardroom froze.

Victoria whispered:

“What did you say?”

Thomas realized too late.

Rebecca pressed a button.

The doors opened.

Two federal investigators entered.

Thomas stood.

“This is ridiculous.”

Daniel looked at him.

“No.”

“This is over.”

But it wasn’t.

Not yet.

Because the investigation found something none of us expected.

Thomas had not merely emptied Emily’s trust.

He had also interfered with her medical insurance appeals.

May you like

Repeatedly.

For twelve years.
