Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO CAME BACK FROM THE GRAVE

The ballroom became completely silent.
Nobody knew how to react.
Some guests stared at Elena as if they were looking at a ghost.
Others whispered.
One executive actually dropped his champagne glass.
Marianne couldn't move.
Victor's expression became unreadable.
Adrian watched him closely.
For five years, Victor had believed Elena was dead.
Now she was standing less than twenty feet away.
Alive.
Healthy.
And holding the evidence that could destroy him.
Marianne finally found her voice.
“Elena?”
Elena smiled.
“Hello, Marianne.”
Marianne's face turned pale.
“You're…”
“Alive?”
Elena took a slow step forward.
“Yes.”
Marianne looked toward Victor.
He remained still.
“You died.”
“No.”
“You were buried.”
“You buried someone.”
Marianne's breathing became unsteady.
Elena stopped in front of her.
“You never looked inside the coffin.”
Marianne whispered:
“Victor told me…”
“I know.”
“And you knew?”
“You helped him.”
The crowd began murmuring.
Adrian raised one hand.
“Everyone will have answers.”
“But first, you should know why you're seeing my wife tonight.”
He looked toward the stage.
“Because five years ago, we were lied to.”
“And tonight, we're going to show you the truth.”
The screen behind them came alive.
The first image was an old police report.
The second was the accident scene.
The third was the medical file.
Then the inconsistencies.
Two different times of death.
Two different vehicle reports.
Missing photographs.
Altered signatures.
The audience watched in silence.
Victor remained expressionless.
Then an audio recording played.
His voice.
She won't survive the crash.
Marianne's voice followed.
And Adrian?
Victor answered:
He'll believe whatever we tell him.
Gasps spread throughout the ballroom.
Marianne grabbed the table.
“That's been edited!”
Sofia stepped onto the stage.
“No.”
She held up a forensic certification.
“The recording has been independently authenticated.”
Victor stared at her.
Then at Elena.
Then at Lucas.
His eyes stopped on the boy.
Something changed.
“You.”
Lucas stood beside Adrian.
Victor whispered:
“That's impossible.”
Elena looked at him.
“You didn't know about him.”
“Did you?”
Victor stared at Lucas.
“You hid the child.”
“No.”
Elena smiled coldly.
“We hid from you.”
The second recording began.
Victor speaking to Marianne about the trust.
The money.
The children.
The plan.
Everything.
Marianne began crying.
She turned toward Adrian.
“I didn't want her dead.”
“You helped arrange it.”
“I was afraid.”
“You were greedy.”
She looked down.
“I wanted security.”
Adrian replied:
“You had a family.”
Victor suddenly moved toward the exit.
Security blocked him.
Police entered through the ballroom doors.
A federal investigator walked onto the stage.
“Victor Hale.”
Victor stopped.
“You are under arrest.”
Marianne looked at Elena.
“Please.”
Elena shook her head.
“No.”
“Please listen.”
“I did.”
“For five years.”
Then the officers approached.
Victor was arrested.
Marianne was placed under arrest as an accomplice.
The executives involved in the conspiracy were detained over the following hours.
The ballroom transformed into a crime scene.
And the family empire that had looked invincible that morning began collapsing before midnight.
But Elena wasn't finished.
She turned toward Lucas.
“Come.”
He followed.
Adrian took his son's shoulder.

Together, the three of them walked off the stage.
For the first time in five years, they were no longer hiding.
