Chapter 17 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
Sienna entered alone.
She placed a gun on the table.
Then sat.
“I don't want to hurt you.”
“That's reassuring.”
“I was working for Victor.”
Nathan raised his weapon.
Sienna ignored him.
“I was supposed to get close to Julian.”
“You did.”
“I was supposed to convince him to divorce you.”
“You did that too.”
Her eyes lowered.
“But I changed my mind.”
“Why?”
She looked at me.
“Because I discovered what they planned to do with your children.”
My hands tightened.
“What?”
“They weren't going to kill them.”
Somehow that sounded worse.
“They wanted to raise them.”
“Why?”
“Because Victor believes your sons can inherit the entire network.”
I stared.
“They're babies.”
“Exactly.”
Sienna opened a folder.
Photographs.
A private compound.
Children.
Security guards.
A nursery.
Then my sons' names.
PROJECT HEIRS.
I felt sick.
“When?”
“Three weeks.”
Nathan slammed his hand onto the table.
“We need to move.”
Sienna nodded.
“There's another problem.”
“What?”
“Victor has someone inside your security team.”
I looked at Nathan.
Then at the door.
A shadow passed beneath it.
Sienna grabbed her gun.
The door exploded inward.
Gunfire filled the room.
Nathan pushed me behind the bed.
Sienna fired twice.
Someone screamed.
Then the attackers ran.
I crawled toward the window.
Outside, another SUV waited.
The back door opened.
A woman stepped out.
I saw her face.
My heart stopped.
My mother.

Then disappeared into the car.
