Chapter 16 - THE MARRIAGE

I couldn't stop thinking about it.

My marriage.

Julian.

The twins.

Everything might have been planned before I knew any of them.

Nathan revealed the truth.

My grandfather had once made a deal with Victor Vale.

Two families would eventually merge their bloodlines.

The agreement was buried.

Until I met Julian.

“What about love?”

Nathan looked at me.

“That part wasn't planned.”

“Julian?”

“He fell in love with you.”

I laughed.

“That doesn't excuse anything.”

“No.”

He looked away.

“But it explains why he eventually tried to run.”

Julian had discovered the truth after our marriage.

He tried to leave the Orchid Circle.

They threatened me.

Then our unborn children.

He chose cowardice.

He betrayed me publicly to protect us privately.

But he never told me.

I wasn't sure whether that made him worse or better.

Then my phone rang.

Julian.

I answered.

“Grace.”

“What do you want?”

“To warn you.”

“About what?”

“Victor knows you're alive.”

“I know.”

“No.”

His voice was urgent.

“He knows about the boys.”

My blood ran cold.

“Where are you?”

“Airport.”

“Why?”

“I've been trying to get evidence.”

A pause.

Then:

“Grace, don't trust Nathan.”

The call ended.

I looked at Nathan.

He was staring at me.

“Julian called.”

“What did he say?”

I didn't answer.

Because outside the motel window, a black SUV had stopped.

And this time, I recognized the driver.

Sienna.
