Chapter 8 - The Proposal

Spring arrived at the Sterling estate in a burst of colors. The gardens were in full bloom, filled with the sweet fragrance of roses and the humming of bees. The mansion was no longer a golden cage; it was a sanctuary of love, hospitality, and life.

Arthur had been secretly planning a special evening for weeks. With the help of Mrs. Gable and the staff, he had transformed the vast glass greenhouse at the center of the garden into a fairy-tale setting, illuminated by thousands of fairy lights and decorated with white orchids—Elena’s favorite flowers.

As evening fell, Arthur led Elena down the stone path leading into the garden. Elena wore a stunning emerald green silk dress that complemented her eyes, her hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders.

When she stepped into the greenhouse, she gasped in awe. In the center of the illuminated glass structure stood a romantic dinner table set for two, surrounded by soft violin music played by a small live ensemble hidden near the entrance.

"Arthur... this is breathtaking," Elena breathed, looking around at the magical lights.

"It’s missing one thing," Arthur said softly, holding her hand and leading her to the center of the greenhouse.

He looked into her eyes, his expression overflowing with deep, unconditional love.

"Months ago, in a dark, rain-filled room, I told you I needed love," Arthur spoke, his voice trembling with emotion. "I was a man who had everything and nothing at the same time. You walked into my life and showed me that true wealth isn't held in bank accounts or property deeds; it’s held in the heart of the person who stays when the world goes quiet."

Arthur gently lowered himself onto one knee, no longer needing his cane for support. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a magnificent, ethically sourced diamond ring that sparkled under the golden fairy lights.

"Elena Vance, you healed my broken spirit, restored my humanity, and taught me how to love without fear. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, my partner, and the queen of my heart?"

Elena covered her mouth with both hands, tears of pure happiness streaming down her face. She didn't hesitate for a single second.

"Yes!" she cried out softly. "Yes, Arthur, a thousand times yes!"

Arthur stood up, slipping the ring onto her finger, and pulled her into a passionate, loving embrace. The violin music swelled around them, and through the glass roof of the greenhouse, the night sky blazed with a million shining stars.
