Chapter 7 - A New Beginning at the Estate

Upon their return to the Sterling estate, the atmosphere within the grand house underwent a total revolution. The cold, sterile environment was replaced by warmth, laughter, and light.
Arthur held a gathering in the main hall for all the estate staff. Mrs. Gable stood at the head of the staff, looking anxious and uncertain about her future, fearing retribution for her past warnings to Elena.
Arthur stood before them, holding Elena’s hand openly.
"For years, this mansion was managed like an institution rather than a home," Arthur addressed the gathered staff. "I was a bitter master who demanded perfection while giving no warmth in return. That changes today. Under new management—co-managed by Elena—working conditions, wages, and hours are being restructured to ensure everyone here is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve."
The staff gasped, followed by warm applause and bright smiles.
Arthur then turned specifically to Mrs. Gable. The elderly housekeeper bowed her head nervously.
"Mrs. Gable," Arthur said softly. "You have served this estate faithfully for three decades. You acted out of a desire to protect the order of this house, even if it came from a place of tradition. I want you to remain as our head housekeeper, but with one condition."
Mrs. Gable looked up, her eyes wide. "Anything, Mr. Sterling."
"You must stop calling me Mr. Sterling, and you must start letting light into every room of this house every single day," Arthur smiled warmly.
Tears filled Mrs. Gable’s strict eyes, and for the first time in memory, she offered a genuine, warm smile. "Consider it done, Arthur."
Over the next few months, the estate was transformed. The old, dusty drapes were replaced with bright fabrics. The garden, which had been overgrown and neglected, was restored to full bloom under Elena’s supervision, filled with vibrant roses, lavender, and sweet-scented jasmine.
Arthur’s health improved dramatically. With Elena’s constant love and encouragement, his dependence on his wheelchair became a thing of the past. He walked with a light cane, his physical energy fully restored, his laughter filling the once-silent corridors.
One evening, as they sat together in the sunroom watching the sunset, Elena turned to Arthur with a mischievous smile.
"Do you remember what you whispered to me that rainy night months ago?" she asked gently.
Arthur laughed softly, his cheeks turning slightly red. "'I need love. Don't move.'"

"I was so terrified that night," Elena recalled softly, tracing the lines of his palm. "I thought you were going to command me, like wealthy men often do."
"And instead, I begged you," Arthur murmured, leaning in to kiss her lips softly. "It was the best thing I ever did in my life. Losing my pride that night was how I found my soul."
