Chapter 3 - THE GATHERING STORM

Within twenty-four hours, Maya’s world transformed completely.

She was escorted to the top-floor penthouse of the Plaza Hotel, guarded by elite security personnel personally assigned by Julian Sterling. That evening, the double doors of the penthouse opened, and an elderly man with silver hair and a golden-handled cane stepped inside.

Samuel Montgomery, the titan of international commerce, looked at Maya. As his eyes met hers, tears welled up in his weathered face. He saw the exact reflection of his late daughter Eleanor in Maya's fierce, determined eyes.

"My child," Samuel whispered, his voice trembling as he opened his arms. "I searched every corner of the world. Forgive me for taking so long."

Maya embraced her grandfather tightly. For years, she had felt utterly alone in the world, believing she had no family left to protect her and Lily. Now, she held the patriarch of one of the world's most powerful families.

"Grandfather," Maya said softly, pulling back to look at him. "My mother lived a peaceful life, but she suffered. And for five years, I was forced to bow my head to people who treated me like garbage. I don't want luxury for the sake of flexing wealth. I want justice."

Samuel turned to Julian Sterling, who was standing quietly near the panoramic window overlooking the city. "Julian, you found my granddaughter. Name your reward."

Julian stepped forward, bowing respectfully to Samuel before looking directly at Maya. "I require no financial reward, Lord Montgomery. But if Maya wishes to dismantle the Vance family and teach them the true meaning of power, I would be honored to act as her architect."

Maya looked at Julian. He was striking, confident, and possessed an aura of effortless authority. Unlike Richard, who used aggression to mask his insecurities, Julian emanated absolute strength.

"Where do we begin?" Maya asked, a cold fire igniting in her chest.

"We begin where Richard is most vulnerable," Julian replied smoothly. "His pride, his business, and his delusion of grandeur."

Meanwhile, back in Long Island, Richard Vance was sitting in his living room, drinking scotch with his mother, Olivia, and Vanessa. They were celebrating the viral success of the cake video.

"You really showed her, son," Olivia cackled, taking a sip of wine. "She was holding you back anyway. A waitress! Can you imagine? Now that she's gone, you can marry Vanessa and focus on getting that promotion at work."

Vanessa rested her head on Richard's shoulder, smiling slyly. "I already posted a follow-up video, babe. Everyone is laughing at her. She probably went back to begging on the streets."

Suddenly, Richard’s phone rang. It was his company's Chief Financial Officer.

"Richard!" the CFO barked over the phone, his voice laced with panic. "What the hell did you do?"

"What do you mean, sir?" Richard asked, instantly sitting up straight.

"Sterling Capital just rejected our $50 million line of credit!" the CFO screamed. "Not only that, but they just bought 51% of our parent company's stock! They are taking over Vance Logistics tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM! The new majority shareholder is arriving to clean house!"

Richard's face drained of color. "What? Who bought us?"

"I don't know!" the CFO yelled. "All I know is the representative's name is Sterling, and the chairman of the board is bringing the new owner in person! If you are not in the board room tomorrow morning with your shoes shined and your reports ready, you're fired!"

Richard hung up, his hands shaking. "The company was just bought out..."

Olivia waved her hand dismissively. "Oh, don't worry, Richard. You're the best project manager they have! Whoever the new owner is, they'll recognize your talent immediately. You'll probably get promoted!"

"Yeah, babe," Vanessa chimed in, kissing his cheek. "Tomorrow you'll show them who you are."

May you like

Richard tried to smile, reassuring himself that everything would be fine. Maya was gone, his path was clear, and tomorrow would be his big break.

He had no idea that the "new owner" stepping into that corporate boardroom was the very woman whose face he had shoved into a birthday cake forty-eight hours ago.
