Daniel identified four pediatric patient files tied to HCR.
Sophie.
Lily.
Noah Price.
Ava Grant.
All had prosthetic/orthotic care through Northbridge.
All had data used in validation.
Two had insurance bridge-billing duplicates.
Two did not.
So HCR wasn't simply repayment of fraud.
It was a rights pool.
Hannah’s IP.
Claire’s advocacy.
Evelyn’s sale proceeds.
Combined.
The four children would potentially share economic rights according to schedule.
Then current value estimated $31 million after royalties, not $22m due another subaccount.
Maya stared.
Her mother had placed nearly entire windfall beyond family reach.
Why?
Because Evelyn believed Northbridge sale price partly reflected technology/data that company did not fully own morally, even if lawyers could defend it legally.
She built private restitution framework.
Good.
But why keep secret after sale?
Robert would have challenged.
Buyer would renegotiate.
Claire wanted legal clarity first.
Then Hannah died.
Claire got sick.
Evelyn delayed.
Again adults ran out of time.
Then Ethan confronted Maya:
“You knew pieces of this.”
“Yes.”
“How much?”
“I knew Mom created something.”
“Did you know Sophie might be beneficiary?”
“No.”
“Did you suspect?”
“Yes.”
“And you still tried to take her leg.”
Maya cried.
“Yes.”
There was no redemption shortcut.
She had let fear and greed turn into cruelty toward a child.
Whether she wanted destroy or retrieve evidence, either was unacceptable.
Then Maya admitted she had debts.
Not $1m.
$240,000.
Bad investments.
She feared if HCR exposed, family inheritance she expected would never come.
But Evelyn had already left little.
Maya had built fantasies around hidden Reynolds money.
When Sophie said something rattled, Maya thought the key was inside.
She panicked.
That was motive.
Not attack to injure Sophie specifically.
But she chose force.
Then Sophie asked father:
“Did Maya hit my leg because of money?”
Ethan answered carefully.
“She made a bad choice because she was scared about a secret.”
“Is that yes?”
“Yes.”
Sophie looked away.
Then:
“Mom said legs are expensive.”
Ethan almost cried.
“She did.”
Then Sophie said something new.
“Mom also said mine was paid for twice.”
Ethan froze.
“Exactly those words?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“Before she died.”
“What else?”
Sophie thought.
“She said one payment was money.”
“And the other?”
Sophie shrugged.
“She said the other payment was a promise.”
Everyone stared.
A promise.
HCR may not only allocate money.
Maybe each child had future governance/royalty rights.
Then Daniel completed imaging of sealed capsule without opening.
Inside were two objects.
One small silver key.
And one folded strip of micro-engraved metal.
Beneficiary schedule?
Possibly.
Maya stared at scan.
“That isn't paper.”
“No.”
“What is it?”
She whispered:
“My mother called it the witness plate.”
Ethan looked at her.
“What does it witness?”
Maya closed eyes.
“Who actually owned NR-17 before Northbridge ever existed.”
That could change everything.
Then opening scheduled.
