She pursued him romantically after realizing he had discovered her fraud.
He claimed their affair was evidence of coercion.
When I heard that, I finally understood Celeste’s warning.
Max did not simply lie.
He built lies around real facts.
Rachel had approved payments.
Rachel had slept with him.
Rachel had sent him confidential financial information.
Those truths became structural beams inside a false story.
He did the same to Celeste.
Her anxiety became instability.
Her questions became paranoia.

Police recovered the laptop.
The metadata showed Max created Blackridge’s original formation documents.
The phones contained drafted messages.

Rachel’s.

Celeste’s.

Max had built different blame scenarios depending on which part of the scheme failed.
If auditors found vendor fraud:
Rachel.

If Celeste exposed hidden accounts:
mental-health allegations.
If I discovered the affair:
financial misconduct accusations.
Everyone around Max had a prepared version of reality waiting to destroy them.
The prosecutor asked him during a hearing:
“Did you trust anyone?”
Max smiled.
“Trust is not a business control.”
That quote made the news.
