Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending

The sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant strokes of amber, violet, and gold. The birthday candles on the massive, four-tiered cake flickered brightly in the evening breeze—one candle for each of my four miracles, plus a glowing sparkler in the center representing the new life we had built together from the ashes of the old.

“Make a wish, babies!” my mother called out, holding Maya and Leo close while Nora and Chloe clapped their hands in ecstatic anticipation.

Four little pairs of eyes closed tightly, four sets of tiny hands clasped together, and with one synchronized, joyful breath, they blew out every single flame. Smoke curled lazily into the evening air, carrying with it the laughter, the love, and the unbreakable resilience of a family forged in fire and crowned with absolute, enduring happiness.

As I wrapped my arms around my children, pulling them close against my heart, I knew the story of my life hadn't ended on that cold baby-shower floor. That was merely the dark night before the dawn—the moment the old world broke apart so that a magnificent, beautiful new one could finally be born.

We had won. We were safe, we were free, and our happily ever after was just beginning.
