Chapter 7 - My Son Wasn’t Innocent EitherThe public wanted Daniel to be the victim.

I refused.
Celeste manipulated him.
True.
She forged documents.
True.
She conspired with Victor and Richard.
True.
But Daniel had ignored governance.
Signed documents without reading.
Overrode compliance staff.
Dismissed my concerns because he preferred Celeste’s approval.
That mattered.
At the emergency board meeting Monday morning, Daniel offered to resign.
Nobody expected it.
“I failed in judgment.”
The directors stared.
“I allowed a personal relationship to compromise corporate decisions.”
He looked toward me.
“And when experienced people warned me, I treated disagreement as betrayal.”
I was proud of him.
Which was why I accepted the resignation.
Daniel looked surprised.
So did everyone else.
“Mom?”
“You offered.”
“I thought you’d argue.”
“No.”
The room went silent.
I continued.
“Accountability that disappears because someone is family isn’t accountability.”
Daniel slowly nodded.
The board appointed independent executive Elena Park as interim CEO.
Daniel remained a shareholder.
Not chief executive.
For one year, he worked under the restructuring team with no special signing authority.
Some relatives called me cruel.
Daniel did not.
Later he told me:
“If you had protected me from consequences, you would have proved Celeste right.”
“How?”
“That I could be controlled by whoever made me feel most important.”
He was learning.
May you like
Painfully.
But learning.
