Chapter 6 - The Wedding TrapSaturday arrived beneath a perfect blue sky.

Four hundred guests filled St. Catherine’s estate.

Celeste wore a custom ivory gown worth more than some houses.

She looked radiant.

Daniel looked devoted.

Only six people knew the wedding would never become legally binding.

The officiant knew.

Arthur knew.

Federal investigators knew.

I knew.

Daniel knew.

Celeste did not.

She walked down the aisle beside Richard Warren.

Victor Hale sat in the third row.

Seeing him after eleven years almost made me laugh.

He looked older.

Still arrogant.

Celeste reached Daniel.

He took her hands.

“Beautiful,” he whispered.

She smiled.

“You’re mine now.”

The microphones captured it.

Ceremony proceeded.

But before the legal declaration, Daniel requested a brief pause.

He turned toward the guests.

“I have a wedding gift.”

Celeste smiled.

A large screen descended behind the altar.

She frowned.

The first image appeared.

Her messages with Victor.

Her face changed.

Then:

He needs admiration more than intelligence. Easy.

Guests gasped.

Richard stood.

Security moved into position.

Celeste whispered:

“Daniel…”

Another message.

After marriage, we strip Margaret’s authority.

Then the forged guarantee.

Then Aurora Capital.

Then the shell companies.

Celeste pulled away.

“You went through my phone?”

Daniel looked at her.

“You forged my signature.”

“That isn’t what you think.”

“I’ve spent eighteen months saying that sentence for you.”

Silence.

Then I stood.

Celeste saw me.

Her expression changed from fear to rage.

“You.”

I walked toward the front.

“Yes.”

“You did this.”

“No.”

I looked around the room.

“You did.”

Victor headed toward a side exit.

Two federal agents intercepted him.

Richard tried another.

Same result.

Celeste stared.

Then laughed almost hysterically.

“You think you’ve won?”

She pointed toward Daniel.

“He controls Hale Dynamics.”

I finally answered the misunderstanding that had powered her entire scheme.

“No.”

She stopped.

I continued.

“Daniel runs Hale Dynamics.”

“Daniel owns twenty-two percent.”

“The Founders Trust controls fifty-one percent of voting rights.”

Celeste’s lips parted.

“And I am the sole controlling trustee.”

Nothing moved.

Her entire two-year plan had been built around a company structure she never fully understood.

“You…”

Her voice weakened.

“You own it?”

“I control it.”

She looked toward Daniel.

“Did you know?”

He nodded.

“Of course.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

Daniel’s answer was devastatingly simple.

“Because you never asked about anything that didn’t help you.”

Federal agents approached.

Celeste backed away.

The wedding photographer kept taking pictures until Arthur told him to stop.

The last photograph showed Celeste standing beneath thousands of white roses—

watching the empire she planned to steal disappear before she had even reached the vows.
