Chapter 8 - The Deed

One year after the incident, Brenda came to my office carrying a folder.

“I want to sell my half.”

I looked at her.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“Where will you go?”

“I've found a smaller house.”

She placed the folder on my desk.

“I've been thinking.”

She took a breath.

“You saved my house when I was drowning.”

I said nothing.

“And I repaid you by treating you like an enemy.”

She looked down.

“I don't expect you to forgive me.”

“I already did.”

Her eyes lifted.

“But forgiveness doesn't mean trust.”

“I know.”

She nodded.

We completed the sale properly.

No tricks.

No threats.

No family pressure.

Just documents.

This time, Brenda understood every page.

Before she left, she asked:

“Do you think Emma will ever forgive me?”

I smiled faintly.

“You'll have to earn it.”

May you like

“I will.”
