Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

A year after the trial, our lives had settled into a rhythm of joy, healing, and quiet strength.
Ava had joined the local children's art club, and her bedroom walls were covered in bright, cheerful paintings of oceans, flowers, and smiling families. Lucas had taken his first steps right on the living room rug, tumbling straight into my arms while we both burst into laughter.
I had also started a new chapter professionally. Instead of chasing corporate conglomerates and endless wealth, I established the Sarah Thorne Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting grieving families and ensuring patient safety and medical ethics oversight in memory of my late wife. It gave my work true purpose, transforming past tragedy into a legacy of hope for others.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, the three of us walked along the edge of the shore, our bare feet sinking into the cool, damp sand.
Ava stopped suddenly, pointing up at the sky where a single, brilliant white cloud drifted against the azure blue.
"Look, Daddy! It looks like an angel's wing," she said, her face lighting up with a radiant smile.

I lifted Lucas onto my shoulders and wrapped my free arm around Ava’s small shoulders, pulling them both close against my side.
"It sure does, sweetie," I smiled, looking up at the sky with a heart full of gratitude. "It sure does."
