Chapter 9 - Victoria’s Last Seat at the Table

Marcus removed his mother from every board.

She fought him.

Then stopped.

Thorne Meridian underwent the largest governance reform in company history.

Independent directors.

External audit authority.

No family member could approve transactions involving personal interests.

No automatic executive appointments based on surname.

Victoria called it an attack on Daniel’s legacy.

Marcus disagreed.

“Dad’s legacy almost died because we treated family loyalty like corporate control.”

Victoria moved out of the Thorne estate.

For nearly a year, Marcus did not see her.

Then Clara turned one.

Victoria sent a birthday card.

No gift.

Just:

I know I have not earned a place in her life. I hope someday I may.

Khloe read it.

“What do you think?”

Marcus asked.

“She finally asked instead of assuming.”

They agreed to a supervised visit.

Victoria entered quietly.

Clara sat on the floor attacking a wooden puzzle.

Victoria began crying.

“She has Daniel’s eyes.”

Marcus almost stopped the meeting.

Khloe touched his arm.

Victoria crouched.

“Hello, Clara.”

The baby stared.

Then offered her a wooden giraffe.

Victoria laughed.

No forgiveness.

No grand reunion.

Twenty minutes.

That was all.

At the end, Victoria told Khloe:

“I thought preserving the family meant preserving power.”

Khloe answered:

“You almost lost your family doing it.”

Victoria nodded.

“I know.”

That was the beginning.

Not repair.

May you like

Beginning.
