Luciano returned to the broken family project.
Marianne had kept the original pieces.
Most were ordinary.
A photograph of Luciano holding newborn Ellie.
A drawing of the estate.
A picture of Maria.
A tiny paper flower representing Rebecca because Ellie’s teacher had helped her make something for a parent who had died.
On the back was a teacher’s note.
Ellie talks warmly about Dad, Mom Rebecca, Maria, Aunt Marianne, and home. She appears secure in identifying family relationships and understands that Mom Rebecca died but remains part of her family story.
Luciano read it twice.
Rachel did too.
“This contradicts Celina’s attachment claims.”
“Yes.”
It also explained the violence at the reception.
Celina had not randomly stomped a child’s craft.
The project represented exactly what she had been trying to redefine.
Ellie’s family identity.
Rebecca still existed in it.
Maria existed.
Marianne existed.
Celina did not.
Then investigators obtained deleted calendar drafts from Celina’s wedding planner.
One appointment had been scheduled for twelve days after the wedding.
Not with a child psychologist.
With a family consultant specializing in “high-conflict blended households.”
The notes included:
Goal: father accepts temporary separation may benefit child and new marriage.
Luciano stared at the wording.
Father accepts.
Not court orders.
Not doctor recommends.
Father accepts.
That was important.
Celina had not been preparing to take Ellie away by force.
She had been preparing to convince Luciano to send his own daughter away voluntarily.
Rachel looked at him.
“She needed you to believe the idea came from concern.”
Luciano nodded.
Everything aligned.
The false behavior reports.
Reducing witnesses.
Scheduling evaluations while he traveled.
Packing the room.
Separating Rebecca’s belongings.
But the biggest question remained.
Why was Celina so convinced a marriage with Luciano could not survive while Ellie lived at home?
