Chapter 7 - The Women Who Came Before
Sofia visited Elena at the hospital the next morning.
She brought flowers.
And a box.
“What is this?”
“Something I found in Victoria's office.”
Elena opened it.
Inside were photographs.
Women.
Dozens of them.
Some young.
Some older.
All connected to the Bellamy family.
Sofia explained that Victoria had kept records on every woman who married into the family.

Family history.
Financial status.
Medical records.
Personal weaknesses.
Elena stared.
“She investigated all of them.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“To determine whether they were threats.”
“Threats to what?”
“The trust.”
One woman had been publicly accused of theft.
Another was forced into divorce.
A third had lost custody of her children.
A fourth had disappeared from the family's social circle.
Sofia pointed to one photograph.
“That woman was Mrs. Bellamy's first daughter-in-law.”
“What happened?”
“She refused to sign away her rights.”
“What rights?”
“Trust rights.”
Elena stared.
Victoria had been doing this for decades.
She wasn't reacting to Elena.
She was repeating a pattern.
Sofia pulled out another document.
“This is why I stayed.”
Elena looked at her.
“I thought you were afraid.”
“I was.”
“But I had evidence.”
“Why didn't you leave?”
“Because I knew Victoria would do it again.”
Elena looked at the photographs.
“Then we stop her.”
“How?”
“By telling the truth.”
They contacted the other women.
One by one, they agreed to testify.
The evidence became overwhelming.
The same behavior repeated.
The same threats.
The same manipulation.
The same attempt to seize control of family assets.
Victoria wasn't simply a cruel mother-in-law.
She had created a system.
One designed to isolate women and control the family's wealth.
Elena's case became the final example.
