Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Six months later, the sun blazed warmly over the campus green of the regional arts academy as the Class of 2027 gathered for their senior exhibition and scholarship showcase.

The main gallery was packed to the brim with local dignitaries, proud parents, and aspiring artists. At the center of the exhibition hall stood a stunning mannequins display featuring an original collection of evening wear designed entirely by seventeen-year-old Sophia Reyes.

At the front of the display, draped in rich, iridescent emerald silk with hand-stitched pearl accents, sat her crown jewel piece—a masterpiece that drew gasps and applause from every critic in attendance.

Across the room, standing near the refreshment table, I watched my daughter laughing brightly with a group of supportive, genuine friends who loved her for who she was.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. It was a brief text message from an unknown number—a local florist shop notifying me of a massive, anonymous floral arrangement delivered to my salon.

I opened the message and looked at the attached photo of the card tucked into a sea of white lilies.

The handwriting was shaky, hesitant, but unmistakable. It was from Mom.

“To Diana and Sophia. I am so deeply sorry for everything. Watching from afar, I realize how wrong I was. I hope one day you can find it in your hearts to forgive me. Congratulations on your incredible scholarship, Sophia. With all my love, Grandma.”

I stared at the screen for a long moment, feeling a quiet, final closure wash over my soul. I didn't reply, but I didn't feel anger either. Some bridges burn so brightly that they light the path forward, showing you exactly where you are meant to walk.

I slipped my phone back into my pocket, walked over to my daughter, and wrapped my arm around her shoulder as flashbulbs popped around us.

We had survived the fire, and out of the ashes, we had built a kingdom entirely our own. And they truly lived happily ever after.
