Chapter 5 - Why My Grandmother Created Protocol SevenEleanor Hartwell trusted almost nobody.

Including family.
Especially family.
Protocol Seven had two layers.
The first was visible.
Freeze access.
Audit contracts.
Protect corporate assets.
The second existed only in the controlling-shareholder trust.
If an internal takeover targeted Hartwell ownership, all voting authority connected to compromised subsidiaries could temporarily transfer to an independent trustee panel.
That was what Jessica wanted to understand.
Because Victor Vale’s old plan had failed for one reason:
My grandmother retained controlling votes.
If they could trigger a legal challenge to my ownership during pregnancy or postpartum vulnerability—
perhaps claiming incapacity—
the trust could become contested.
Arthur found evidence Jessica had been researching exactly that.
Medical records.
Pregnancy risk.
My divorce.
Even psychological evaluations.
None existed.
So she planned to create a narrative.
Unstable pregnant heiress.
Vindictive.
Using corporate power to punish an ex-husband over a domestic insult.
The dirty-water dinner suddenly looked different.
“Was Diane involved?”
Arthur hesitated.
“We found messages.”
My stomach sank.
Jessica to Diane:
Push her tonight. She’s hormonal enough to explode.
Diane:
She always cries, not explodes.
Jessica:
Make it worse.
Then:
Video everything.
I stared.
There had been cameras?
Harris reviewed the mansion.
A phone hidden behind a decorative plant had recorded the dining room.
The plan had been to provoke me.
Humiliate me.
Make me react violently or hysterically.
Then use the footage in an emergency petition questioning my fitness to exercise controlling shareholder authority.
Except I had not screamed.
Had not struck anyone.
Had not thrown a glass.
I called Arthur.
And invoked the exact protocol they were trying to circumvent.
For the first time in days, I smiled.
“Grandmother would have enjoyed this.”
Arthur nodded.
“Immensely.”
But Diane’s messages made one thing clear.
She knew.
Not everything.
Enough.
She had agreed to humiliate a pregnant woman for financial advantage.
My former mother-in-law had not merely been cruel.
May you like
She had participated in a corporate trap.
And now Protocol Seven had become a criminal investigation.
