Marcus shook my hand.

“Five.”
He smiled.
“Feels longer.”
“You have that effect.”
Documents were presented.
Rebecca began formal representations.
Marcus personally certified that Vale Strategic Holdings had disclosed all material liabilities, investigations, contingent claims, offshore obligations, and criminal exposures.
He signed.
That signature mattered.
Then the doors opened.
Elena walked in.
Marcus stopped breathing.
No one spoke.
She wore a navy suit.

Still thin from detention.
But standing.
Marcus whispered:
“You.”
Elena looked at him.
“Surprised?”
His composure returned quickly.
“This woman is unstable.”
I almost laughed.
Predictable.
He looked at me.
“She ruined you once.”
“Yes.”
“And now you bring her into a merger signing?”
“No.”
I closed my folder.
“I brought you.”
Marcus’s face changed.
Rebecca stood.
“This meeting is concluded.”
The conference-room doors opened again.
Federal agents entered.
Not theatrical.
Efficient.
Badges.
Warrants.
Instructions.
Marcus remained seated.
“What exactly is this?”
An agent answered:
“Search and seizure warrants related to financial fraud, unlawful detention, obstruction, and other matters under active investigation.”
Marcus looked at Elena.
“You think you won?”
She shook her head.
“No.”
Then:
“I think you finally lost the ability to decide who disappears.”
Agents escorted him out.
The merger died before lunch.
Vale Strategic stock collapsed.
Trading suspended.
Accounts frozen.
By evening, investigators raided three company offices and two private facilities.
At one of them—
they found Sarah Kim.
