Emily had manipulated me.

Emily forced me to throw out my mother.
By the time the story reached an aunt in Florida, Emily had apparently hired private investigators to blackmail the entire Walker family.
I wanted to retaliate publicly.
Emily stopped me.
“No.”
“They’re destroying your reputation.”
“With people who already decided.”
“What do you want to do?”
“Nothing.”
That frustrated me.
Then she said:
“If you defend me publicly, this becomes me versus your mother again.”
She was right.
So I made one statement privately to relatives who asked.
The decision was mine. I reviewed evidence in my home and removed people who repeatedly mistreated my wife and misused household funds. Emily did not request their eviction.
No details.
No footage leaked.
No humiliation.
Then something unexpected happened.
Maria, our housekeeper, contacted me.
She had recordings of Linda telling her not to return.
One line mattered:
Emily needs to learn what it takes to belong in this family.
Another:
Once the baby comes, Ethan will need us more than her.
Emily listened.
Then turned it off.
“I don’t want more.”
