CHAPTER 7 – HOME

Ten years after that terrible Easter, the little house was filled with laughter once again.

The porch swing creaked gently in the afternoon breeze.

The flower garden bloomed brighter every spring.

Arthur, his hair now almost completely gray, sat watching children chase bubbles across the yard.

Lily stepped onto the porch carrying her own little daughter.

The little girl pointed toward the old camera resting on the table.

"Grandpa..."

"Can we take another picture?"

Arthur smiled.

"I've been waiting all day."

Lily stood beneath the same blooming dogwood tree where he had photographed her years before.

This time she held her daughter safely in her arms.

Arthur lifted the camera.

Just before pressing the shutter, Lily looked at him.

"Thank you."

He lowered the camera.

"For what?"

"For teaching me what family is."

Arthur shook his head gently.

"You taught me first."

The shutter clicked.

One photograph.

Three generations.

No fear.

No secrets.

Only love.

Arthur looked at the picture on the camera screen and smiled.

The Whitmore fortune had vanished long ago.

The mansion had been sold.

Its grand halls were silent.

But this small house overflowed with something no inheritance could ever purchase.

Trust.

Hope.

And the promise that the cycle of violence had ended forever.

As the sun dipped below the trees, Lily's daughter laughed from the porch swing, and Arthur realized that this—not wealth, not status, not revenge—was the greatest legacy anyone could leave behind.
