Chapter 4 - The Vault in ZurichThe Swiss vault contained no gold.

No cash.
No jewels.
It contained information.
Lorenzo had understood that Victor’s crimes were protected by people far more powerful than one businessman.
Politicians.
Bankers.
Construction executives.
A judge.
Two members of Morelli Global’s current board.
The documents showed bribery and laundering stretching across twenty years.
Alexander stared at one name.
Marco DeLuca.
Chairman of Morelli Global.
The man scheduled to lead the emergency vote removing Alexander.
Claire whispered:
“Now we know why tomorrow matters.”
Victor’s plan was not merely to become CEO.
He and DeLuca were preparing to sell Morelli Global’s infrastructure division to an investment consortium they secretly controlled.
The transaction would shift billions in assets.
Once completed, tracing ownership would become nearly impossible.
Alexander’s removal allowed the sale.
Isabella’s forced signatures authorized trust changes.
Everything converged.
Alexander contacted federal and international financial investigators.
But prosecutors warned him:
“Do not confront them publicly before we secure original records.”
Alexander understood.
So he did something Victor did not expect.
He returned to the mansion.
And pretended to lose.
The next morning, Alexander attended the emergency board meeting.
Victor sat near the end of the table.
DeLuca chaired.
“This meeting concerns the unstable conduct of Alexander Morelli.”
Alexander listened.
Doctors spoke.
Lawyers spoke.
Victor described finding his nephew in a “delusional state.”
Then Isabella entered.
Everyone froze.
Victor stood.
“What is she doing here?”
Alexander remained seated.
DeLuca frowned.
“Who is this woman?”
Isabella looked at Victor.
“You know.”
Victor recovered.
“She is an ill relative.”
Isabella smiled sadly.
“You buried me ten years ago and still cannot look me in the eyes.”
Whispers erupted.
Alexander placed DNA results on the table.
99.9997% parent-child probability.
The room changed.
Victor laughed.
“This proves biological relation, not identity.”
Claire spoke.
“Then perhaps fingerprint records will.”
Isabella had been fingerprinted for passport applications decades earlier.
Those records matched.
DeLuca stood.
“This meeting is suspended.”
Alexander finally smiled.
“No.”
He closed the doors.
“You wanted a vote.”
Federal investigators entered.
DeLuca went pale.
Alexander continued:
“Let’s discuss why.”
Search warrants were served.
Phones seized.
Documents collected.
Victor remained strangely calm.
He looked at Alexander.
“Your father would be disappointed.”
Alexander stared.
“Because I found her?”
“Because you allowed emotion to destroy what he built.”
“My father built a company.”
Victor replied:
“I built an empire.”
There it was.
The truth Victor believed.
Lorenzo created.
Victor expanded.
Therefore Victor deserved.
Everything.
Even the company.
Even Isabella’s freedom.
Even Alexander’s trust.
Victor looked toward Isabella.
“You could have prevented all this.”
She laughed.
“I did.”
His face hardened.
“You signed.”
“Because you threatened my son.”
“You had choices.”
“So did you.”
Federal agents escorted DeLuca away.
Victor was not arrested immediately.
Not enough yet.
He smiled at Alexander before leaving.
“You think a vault will save you?”
Alexander said nothing.
Victor stopped at the door.
“You should ask your mother what she did before the accident.”
Isabella went pale.
Alexander noticed.
Victor smiled.
“There.”
Then he left.
Alexander turned.
“Mom?”
Isabella looked away.
“What did he mean?”
She sat.
For several seconds, she could not answer.
Then:
“I made a deal.”
“With Victor?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“The night before the crash.”
Alexander felt cold.
“What deal?”
Isabella whispered:
“I agreed to give him control of part of the company.”
“Why?”
“To protect you.”
“That doesn’t make sense.”
“It will.”
Her hands trembled.
“Because at the time, Alexander…”
May you like
She looked directly at him.
“…I believed you had killed someone.”
