Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

Over the next two years, the Moretti empire underwent a massive transformation. Dante dismantled the illegal arms and extortion networks, transitioning the family's vast wealth into legal real estate, shipping, and international philanthropy. It was a slow, dangerous process, but Dante was relentless. He dismantled his criminal syndicate piece by piece, driven by the desire to give his son a clean name and to build a home worthy of the woman who had saved them.
The estate, once a cold fortress, was filled with light, laughter, and warm music. The heavy security guards were replaced by peaceful gardens and open gates.
On a bright spring afternoon, Dante took me back to the place where it all began—the building that used to be Aurelios.
He had bought the entire property, renovated it, and transformed it into a stunning community center and arts foundation named The Phoenix.
We walked into the empty dining hall, light pouring through the stained-glass windows, illuminating pristine hardwood floors. There were no chandeliers to fall, no men whispering in shadows.
Dante turned to me, reaching into his coat pocket. He didn't pull out a gun or a ledger. He pulled out a small velvet box.
He dropped down to one knee on the floor where my blood had once pooled.
"Clara," Dante said, opening the box to reveal a breathtaking emerald ring that caught the light like pure sunlight. "Two years ago, you spilled your blood on this floor to save my son. You took a hit meant for a stranger, and in doing so, you saved my soul. You brought light into a life that was meant for darkness."
Tears sprang to my eyes as I looked down at the man who had given up an empire of violence just to earn my heart.

"Will you make me the happiest man alive and become my wife?" Dante asked, his dark eyes brimming with emotion.
"Yes," I sobbed happily, dropping to my knees beside him. "Yes, Dante. Absolutely yes."
