Chapter 4 - The Fall of the Empire

My father stepped out of the car, flanked by two corporate security guards in sharp suits. He didn't look angry; his expression was far worse—it was the look of a ruthless titan of industry staring down an insignificant insect that had crawled onto his shoe.
Garrett staggered backward, stumbling into the entryway table and knocking over a decorative porcelain vase that shattered loudly against the floor.
"Dad... Mr. Callahan... sir," Garrett stammered, his voice cracking with rising panic. "There’s been a misunderstanding. It was a joke! A domestic argument! She provoked us—"
"Quiet," Inspector Vance commanded, stepping past Garrett and flashing a digital tablet directly into his face. "Play the audio-visual file, Officer."
A crisp, high-definition holographic projection cast from the tablet illuminated the walls of the grand foyer. It was the smart doorbell footage.
The audio erupted through the quiet hallway with brutal clarity. Evelyn’s shrill, vicious sneer echoed off the marble walls: ‘A dirty, broke woman like you will never belong in this family.’ Then came the hiss of the industrial disinfectant bottle, my agonizing screams, and the unmistakable sound of Garrett’s cold, callous voice holding me down while I thrashed in pain: ‘Quit acting so dramatic. It’s only disinfectant.’
Evelyn stared at the projection, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. Her face turned a sickly, mottled grey. The guests who had begun gathering in the parlor peeked through the archways, their eyes wide with horror and disgust as they listened to the true nature of the family they had come to dine with.
"That... that is fabricated! AI-generated!" Evelyn shrieked, lunging forward like a cornered animal. "They hacked our security system! They're framing us!"
"The footage is cryptographically signed at the hardware level by the smart device’s onboard secure enclave," Attorney Sterling replied coldly, snapping her briefcase shut. "It is admissible in federal and state courts without question. Furthermore, the medical reports from Johns Hopkins detailing the chemical burns on my client's corneas have already been logged with the district attorney's office."
Garrett dropped to his knees, his composure completely shattered. He looked up at my father with desperate, pleading eyes, tears spilling over his meticulously groomed cheeks.
"Sir, please! You know me! We worked together on the expansion project! You liked me!" Garrett wept, grabbing at the hem of my father's trousers. "Tell them it's a mistake! Talk to Jane! Please, let me talk to my wife!"
My father looked down at him with profound, chilling disgust. He slowly stepped back, pulling his coat away from Garrett’s grasping hands.
"Your wife is currently in a specialized medical unit undergoing treatment for chemical burns inflicted by your mother while you acted as her accomplice," my father said, his voice dropping to a low, lethal register. "And as for our business relationship, Garrett? Let me bring you up to speed on some current events."
Attorney Sterling stepped forward, handing Garrett a thick manila envelope that landed squarely in his lap.
"Effective exactly three minutes ago," Attorney Sterling recited from memory, "Callahan Global Equity has exercised its acceleration clauses on every single commercial and residential note held by Callahan Enterprises. Your family’s hotel empire is in technical default. Our receivers have already seized your corporate accounts, frozen your liquid assets, and initiated foreclosure proceedings on every property your mother owns—including this mansion."
Garrett stared at the papers, trembling violently. "No... you can't do that. That would ruin us! That would bankrupt the entire company!"
"It already has," my father replied smoothly. "And by tomorrow morning, the board of directors will be voting to remove you and your mother from executive management due to gross moral turpitude and criminal indictment."
Inspector Vance stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his tactical belt.

"Evelyn Callahan and Garrett Callahan," Inspector Vance announced formally, his voice ringing through the silent foyer. "You are under arrest for aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit battery, and evidence tampering. You have the right to remain silent..."
As the cold steel click of the handcuffs echoed through the house, Evelyn collapsed onto the Persian rug, sobbing hysterically as her social standing, her wealth, and her precious empire vanished into thin air.
