Chapter 1 - The Dark Shadow at St. Catherine’s

“DADDY… MY TEACHER HURTS ME WHEN NOBODY ELSE IS WATCHING.”
The spoon slipped from Javier Morales’s hand and clattered against the kitchen table.
Across from him, his six-year-old daughter Lucy sat trembling in her wrinkled school uniform, refusing to lift her eyes from the floor. Slowly, she pulled up the sleeve of her tiny sweater.
A dark purple bruise covered her shoulder.
Javier’s chest tightened instantly.
“Who did this to you?” he whispered.
Lucy’s voice cracked as tears filled her eyes.
“Miss Patricia gets angry when I’m too slow during recess,” she said softly. “She squeezes me really hard… and she says nobody will ever believe me.”
That night, Javier called St. Catherine’s Academy in Austin, Texas, demanding answers.
But instead of concern, the principal gave him excuses.
“Lucy is a very emotional child,” Principal Martha Collins explained calmly. “Sometimes children misunderstand discipline.”
Discipline?
The next morning, Javier marched into the school holding Lucy’s hand. The second Miss Patricia entered the office smiling sweetly, Lucy hid behind her father in pure terror.
That single movement told Javier more than words ever could.
“I want to see the security footage,” he demanded immediately.
The principal’s polite expression vanished.
“For privacy reasons, we can’t release surveillance involving other students.”
“Then blur the other children,” Javier snapped. “Show me my daughter.”
Suddenly the room became very quiet.
Too quiet.
That was the moment Javier realized something horrifying:
They weren’t trying to protect the students.
They were trying to protect the teacher.

And when he finally uncovered what those cameras recorded behind closed classroom doors…
…the truth was far worse than bruises.
